What should I wear to the welcome party?
The attire for the welcome party is dressy summer. Think sundresses, skirts, or polished linen separates for women; collared shirts and non-denim trousers or light summer suits (sans tie) for men. Note that we will be outside on grass, so wear comfortable shoes and bring a shawl or jacket as Maine can get cool in the evenings. What should I wear to the wedding?
The attire for the wedding is formal. For men: suits and ties; tuxedos optional. For women: Midi-length to floor-length dresses or elegant separates. If in doubt, just ask! What color will the bridesmaids be wearing?
The bridal party will wear light blue.Events
What’s the best way to get to and from the wedding events?
For the Friday evening welcome party, feel free to drive and park in the visitor spots in The Colony Hotel’s parking lot or call a RideMaine shuttle (the local rideshare service). For the ceremony and reception on Saturday…If staying at The Colony Hotel, you can opt to walk to the ceremony site, which should take you 5-10 minutes along a paved sidewalk (with scenic occean views!). We will also have the Trolley stop at the Colony to collect guests who would prefer not to walk.If staying offsite, we will arrange a trolley to transport guests to and from the ceremony, reception, and a central location in Dock Square, Kennebunkport (the village area).
Trolley Schedule details to be shared closer to the wedding. You are also welcome to drive or carpool, but be mindful there is limited parking. Will there be food at the welcome party?
We'll be serving drinks, dessert, and an assortment of substantial hors d'oeuvres throughout the evening. Whether you've already dined out or you're arriving in town just in time for the festivities, there will be plenty to eat as you settle in and celebrate with us.What should I do during the gap between the ceremony and reception?
There is about a 2 hour gap between our afternoon ceremony and our evening cocktail hour. This time is yours to enjoy a beautiful Maine summer day! Here are some of our suggestions:
All wedding guests, regardless of where you are staying, are welcome to enjoy the Colony Hotel grounds. You can take in the views from the front porch, find the cornhole and putting green on the front lawn, head down to the Marine Room bar for a mudslide, browse the books and games in the library, or even go on a self-guided walking tour of the historic property (ask the front desk for the guide). Depending on weather (and footwear choices), stroll up Ocean Avenue towards Colony Beach and the breakwater. The trolley will also loop back to Dock Square if you'd like to explore the village shops (see our Kennebunkport Guide for recommendations) or freshen up in your hotel room. See you on the Colony porch at 4pm for cocktails!
